Man in custody hurts self
A man,in police custody for his alleged involvement in more than 10 burglary cases,suffered injuries after he hit his head against a wall. The accused,identified as Sagar alias Birju,reportedly banged his head repeatedly against a wall inside the Amar Colony police station lock-up,the police said. The station house officer asked the staff members to take him for first-aid. A case of attempt to suicide has been registered at the police station.
Meet to discuss RTI Act held
In the process of drafting an action-plan over implementation and impacts of the Right to Information (RTI) Act,the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) held a discussion on Wednesday with several organisations working in the field. During the discussion,DoPT,the nodal agency for implementing the Act,invited suggestions to improve the efficacy of the law and shared experience of the organisations actively making use of the provisions for ensuring accountability and transparency in public offices.
Strike draws lukewarm response
Gurgaon: The statewide strike call by the Haryana Roadways Employees Union evoked lukewarm response in Gurgaon and about 100 buses,out of a total of 155 buses in the local depot,plied on their routes as usual,a spokesperson for the district administration said on Wednesday. General Manager of Gurgaon depot Yashender Singh said with the help of the local administration and the police majority of buses could be run on their usual routes. He said disciplinary action will be taken against the drivers and conductors who remained absent from duty on Wednesday because of the strike call.
Three injured as cylinders burst
Faridabad: Three persons were injured after LPG cylinders burst,resulting in five blasts,at Chartriwala Temple on Bypass Road,Old Faridabad,on Tuesday night. A case is yet to be registered and the Faridabad police are looking for the priest of the temple who is missing.
MCDs state extremely poor: Cong
The Opposition Congress in the MCD has alleged that the current financial condition of the civic body is extremely poor,due to which it has been unable to make due payment to contractors. This has hit the pace of Commonwealth Games projects. Raising the issue at a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee,Leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma claimed the revenue earned by the civic agency in the fiscal year 2009-10 was much less than the target.
Price rise: BJP demands apology
The Bharatiya Janata Party members of the MCD have demanded an apology from the Delhi government for police action on party councillors and activists who were protesting against price rise,in which a number of people were injured earlier this week. Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain has also written a letter to Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal,demanding that an inquiry be initiated and action be taken against erring police officials who acted brutally to crush the protest.
No hike in toll rate from April 1
Gurgaon: With the National Highway Authority of India not having informed DSC Constructions Limited,the concessionaire for the Delhi-Gurgaon Highway,about the change in toll rates,no additional charge will be applicable on highway users from April 1 midnight,a spokesperson of DSC Constructions said on Wednesday.
