DTU staff suspended
The Delhi Technological University (DTU) suspended two of its faculty,N K Bhagat of the Electrical Engineering department and Naresh Kumar of Civil Engineering,on Thursday. The former,a university press note stated,has been “instigating the faculty and the student community of DTU against the authorities”. Kumar,who went on a hunger strike on Wednesday against the head of his department,was suspended for “going on a hunger strike without any provocation as an act of protest against the university and disturbing the academic environment”.

Threat to disrupt Games
CHANDIGARH: Over 5,000 members of the Jat community from different parts of the country gathered in Chandigarh and threatened to disrupt the Commonwealth Games if they were not included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. Senior members of the community gathered at the Rally Ground in Sector 25 under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Jat Sangharash Samiti and claimed Jats deserved to be included in the category.

House of missing ‘godman’ raided
GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad police raided the residence of self-proclaimed godman Anoop Kumar Sahai in Greater Noida. The police said they have found some photographs in the cars parked at Sahai’s residence that shows he has married his cousin,who he allegedly abducted. “The photographs,found in the two cars that we seized at his Silver City apartment in Greater Noida,show that the two have gotten married. A non-bailable warrant was issued by the district court against him yesterday. We are conducting raids at other locations. We suspect he could either be in Rishikesh or might have also gone to Holland where he has stayed at earlier occasions,” Raghuveer Lal,Ghaziabad SSP,added. Sudha Srivastava,mother of Priyanka,the abducted woman,believes Sahai coerced her daughter. “He is already married and has a son. The family lives in Gorakhpur. We are searching for them,” a police officer said.

Boy stabbed in property feud
Ghaziabad: A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death when he tried to mediate in a property dispute. According to the police,Shahrukh,the son of one Nawab,tried to calm his father and his father’s step-brother Yusuf when a property dispute between them turned violent. “Yusuf attacked his step-brother with a knife but Shahrukh came between them and was stabbed to death. A case has been registered against Yusuf and his wife at the Masoorie police station in Ghaziabad.

BSES labs approved for meter testing
Gurgaon: The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved BRPL Laboratory and BYPL Laboratory to carry out independent third-party meter testing for power consumers in Haryana. The laboratories are now the first in the country to get such an approval from a state electricity regulatory commission (SERC). “Our state-of-the-art independent meter testing laboratory has been generating interest among SERCs and discoms alike. We are in discussions with several SERCs in this regard,” a BSES spokesperson said.

Gas agency licence racket uncovered
NOIDA: The Noida district administration claimed to have unearthed a major gas agency licence racket. Sources alleged three employees of BOGL have been arrested for promising gas agency licences from the government. “The company charged Rs 1,000 as registration amount from people who wanted a distribution licence for a gas agency. They would then be asked to submit Rs 5 lakh for the licence to be granted,” sources stated. A team led by District Magistrate (Gautam Budh Nagar) Deepak Agarwal raided the office of the company located in Kasna village. Several incriminating documents seized from the company have revealed transactions to the tune of over Rs 4.5 crore.

Rs 10 lakh robbed from West Delhi house
New Delhi: A woman was robbed of cash and jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh while she was alone at her residence in Paschim Vihar’s Multan Nagar area. The family said the incident happened around 3 pm when Vineeta Jain was alone at her D-6 Multan Nagar house. She opened the door when someone rang the bell. The accused,who claimed he had come from a credit card company,sprayed a substance and she lost consciousness. The assailant then fled with valuables. A case has been registered at the Paschim Vihar police station.
