Seven arrested for murder,burglaries
Seven persons,including five proclaimed offenders,allegedly involved in a series of robberies,were arrested in the Capital. The police identified the accused as Anzar Ahmed (28),Mohd Bilal (24),Rehmat Ali (28),Mohd Parvez (25),Bharat Singh (22),Kalia (24) and Alakh Ram (21). Three countrymade firearms,a stolen Tata-407 car,eight stolen motorcycles,eight mobile phones and two knives have been recovered from them,the police said. “The gang has been involved in murder,burglaries,auto-thefts,robbery and dacoity in Bihar,UP,Haryana and Delhi for the last several years,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

MCD engineer held guilty of contempt
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday held an MCD engineer guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to seven days in jail after he failed to comply with the court’s previous direction for regularisation of an unauthorised structure in West Delhi. The order against B B Bajaj,Executive Engineer (Building)-I West Zone,was passed as he failed to comply with the court’s order in August 2008.

Sarthak Chawla murder: lie-detector test on guard
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police took security guard,on duty at the Chawla residence when four-year-old Sarthak Chawla was found murdered,for a lie detector test on Wednesday. On February 5,2008,Sarthak was found murdered and his mother severely injured in their Rajnagar apartment. Kavi Nagar Station House Officer Rajesh Choudhary said the guard,Om Veer,was taken to the CBI headquarters at CGO complex in Delhi. “We are expecting the report within 15 days,” the SHO said.

School boy cooks up his kidnap story
Ghaziabad: Fearing his parents’ wrath,a student cooked up a story of his kidnapping,leading the police to launch a hunt for his ‘abductors’ for two days. Eleven-year-old Ravi,a student of Class VI,missed school on Monday to play cricket. He returned home in the evening and told his parents that he had been abducted by bike-borne assailants but managed to escape,the police said. Ravi’s parents then informed the police. When the police questioned Ravi on Tuesday night,he told them the truth.
