Trader robbed of Rs 10 lakh
A businessman and his friend were attacked by two motorcycle-borne assailants and robbed of about Rs 10 lakh in North Delhi ‘s Ashok Vihar on Monday around noon. Police officials said one Chandra Shekhar Malhotra,who owns a factory in the Wazirpur Industrial Area,was going on his scooter with his friend to deposit the money in State Bank of Patiala in Ashok Vihar. “Two men on motorcycle hit their scooter from the side. Shekhar and his friend fell on the road,after which the accused overpowered them and snatched their bag at knifepoint. The bag contained Rs 9,90,000,” a senior police official said. Police officials said as soon as the accused fled,Shekhar called the PCR. Both were taken to a city hospital and discharged after first aid. A case of robbery has been registered in Ashok Vihar police station. Shekhar own a factory which manufactures zips,officials added.

Neelam Katara plea
Neelam Katara,the mother of Nitish Katara,on Monday withdrew her petition to cancel the parole granted to accused Vishal Yadav till January 31. Vishal,along with his cousin Vikas Yadav,is serving life imprisonment in the Katara case. The move came after a bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan told the mother that the parole was itself coming to an end soon and Vishal would have to surrender after January 31. Nitish Katara,was allegedly murdered by Vikas,son of former Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav,and Vishal in 2001.

2 held for snatching
Passersby caught hold of three bike-borne assailants who were fleeing after robbing a girl and then handed him over to police in Ashok Vihar area. Police said one of the accused managed to escape. Police said the arrested have been identified as Ashish and Mukesh. “The two have been involved in several snatching cases and on Monday,they intercepted one Nidhi Batra and snatched her purse,” Deputy Commissioner of Police,Northwest Delhi,N S Bundela said. Batra is a resident of Ashok Vihar area.

Man held for murder
The Delhi police arrested a Nepal national on Sunday on charge of murder. On October 28 last year,a local shopkeeper had informed the police that his two employees were lying dead in his shop in Mundka. “The shopkeeper had told us that the victims,Bhola Bahadur and Yadav Karki,stayed in his shop. He said he suspected his cook,Kesi,behind the murders since he was absconding,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West),Sharad Aggarwal said. Kesi told the police he had killed the duo in the fit of rage after they beat him up for refusing to cook food for them. He carried a reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest.

Threat calls: two held
Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two people extorting Rs 20 lakh from a businessman and also claimed to have recovered the cellphone used in the crime. Deepak Kushwaha and Suresh were arrested by the central Delhi police on Sunday for extorting money from Kushwaha’s employer,Shibesh Gupta. “Kushwaha used to collect cash from Gupta’s clients but last Diwali,he did not deposit the money. When Gupta came to know about it,he removed him from the job and Kushwaha then planned to take revenge,” said DCP (central district),Jaspal Singh. Police said Kushwaha,along with his two accomplices,Suresh and Ravi stared making calls to Gupta and demanding Rs 20 lakh from him and threatening him with dire consequences. Gupta approached the police. “We tried to scan phone call details and asked Gupta about his rivals and finally reached Kushwaha,” Singh said.
