German Embassy officials house robbed
Four unknown and armed men committed a robbery at a German Embassy officials residence on Tuesday. According to the police,the robbery was committed at 2.30 am on Tuesday and the four robbers escaped with jewellery worth over Rs 1 lakh and Rs 25 lakh in cash. The robbery was committed at D Dulces farmhouse residence,Silver Oaks in Vasant Kunj. According to the police,the robbers first attacked the watchman at the gate. They tied his hand and feet and locked him the guard shelter. They reportedly entered the house by breaking the window panes and woke up the residents of the house. They then ransacked the house,holding the family at gun point and ran away with the jewellery and cash. A case has been registered at Vasant Kunj police station.
Gang of laptop thieves busted
Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked a gang of laptop thieves operating in National Capital Region with the arrest of five men. Vinayak (18),Ajay (21),Sarvan (19),Mukesh (20) and Murli (20),all residents of Chittur district in Andhra Pradesh,were caught from near Hotel Crown Plaza in New Friends Colony and Faridabad on October 31. The gang was operating in Delhi,Noida,Ghaziabad,Gurgaon and Faridabad. They were stealing laptops from parked cars after breaking the glasses by using rubber catapults and stones, a senior police officer said. The police said they were looking for Sanju and Johni,the alleged kingpins of the gang and receivers of stolen laptops.
Lokayukta extension for CM
The Delhi Lokayukta has given another two weeks to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to respond to allegations of misuse of public funds during last years Assembly polls in the Capital. Earlier,last month,the Lokayukta had sought a reply by October 27. The deadline was extended after the CM failed to respond to the notice issued by Justice Manmohan Sarin. A reply has now been sought from her by November 11.
19 fresh cases of dengue
With 19 more people testing positive for dengue on Tuesday,the total number of those suffering from the vector-borne disease in the Capital this season climbed to 416. Since last evening,19 people have tested positive for dengue, Municipal Health Officer,MCD,N K Yadav said.
Flyover inaugurated
Shastri Nagar flyover on Pushta Road was inaugurated by PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan on Tuesday. The six-lane flyover has been constructed at the cost of over Rs 108 crore. Slip roads from Geeta Colony to Disuse Canal and from Disuse Canal to ITO Chungi have already been opened for traffic.
Bullets at Kotla: Cops ask for time
Delhi Police on Tuesday said it may take some more time to ascertain who left cartridges at Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium,found barely two hours prior to the start of the cricket match between India and Australia on 31 October. The police,however,emphasised there was no security issue involved in the recovery of seven cartridges from the second-floor bathroom of the stadium on Saturday. A senior Delhi Police official said investigators believe a security personnel accidentally kept the cartridges in the rest room and forgot to take them when he left. It will take time (to identify the personnel). He may be a little cautious and he may not be forthcoming right now. But we will ascertain it, the official said.
Babloo Srivastava moves HC
Underworld don Babloo Srivastava on Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court against framing of charges against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) for allegedly running a crime syndicate. A trial court had on September 19 allowed framing of charges against him and his aide,Fazal-ur-Rehman. Challenging the trial courts order,Srivastava,who was extradited from Singapore in 1995,pleaded before the High Court for quashing of the order,saying he had been in jail for the last 15 years and that he was not involved in any crime. Justice V K Jain,after hearing the contention of his lawyer D B Goswami,asked Delhi Police to file their response by the next date of hearings.
