Citibank fraud: Court declares Deeksha Puri proclaimed offender

CHANDIGARH: One of the prime accused in Citibank fraud case,Deeksha Puri,was declared a proclaimed offender by the Gurgaon court. The decision was on the basis of the Haryana Police’s submission that Deeksha Puri was not traceable and has absconded,soon after her bail application was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August,this year. Deeksha Puri is mother of Shivraj Puri,the alleged mastermind in the multi-crore Citibank scam. While Shivraj Puri and various other accused are lodged in jail,Deeksha Puri is still absconding.

Transport dept hikes diesel car tax

NEW DELHI: The Transport department announced a hike in the registration fee of diesel vehicles. The move will be implemented from today and will affect diesel car buyers as they will now have to shell out 25 per cent over and above the existing tax slab. For cars priced up to Rs 6 lakh,buyers will have to pay 5 per cent of the cost of the vehicle as registration tax while on cars priced between Rs 6 to Rs 10 lakh the tax will be 8.5 per cent.

Teen sodomised and killed,man held

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sodomising and killing a 15-year-old boy,whose body was found near Yamuna in Northeast Delhi on Monday. The accused,identified as Ravi,was arrested from Northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur area after eyewitnesses told police they had seen him with the victim. “The victim went to the banks of Yamuna for fishing and met the accused there. Ravi took the boy with him,sodomised him and strangulated him,” said Additional DCP (Northeast). Ravi has been involved in several criminal cases in the past,including an arms and a snatching case.

HC seeks reply on security measures

NEW DELHI : The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a response from the Union and Delhi governments on a plea to have adequate security measures to check terrorist attacks in the national capital. The court issued notices to the governments seeking their response within six weeks. The plea,filed by Society of Indian Law Firms,had sought directions to the Union Home Ministry and the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government to take adequate measures including deployment of Rapid Action Force and National Security Guards at different locations to counter terrorism.
