American Center all set for Fourth of July celebrations
NEW DELHI: With the United States all set to celebrate its 235th anniversary of independence on July 4,the American Cultural Center is gearing up to conduct a host of colourful events on the occasion. The evening will witness a many interesting events,ranging from laser shows to dance performances. A massive tent on the American Centre lawn,and a stage,will also be set up. To add an Indian flavour to the evening,the centre has also arranged for a spinning mix of top Hollywood and Bollywood hits,to be played by DJ Manish.
Draft schedule for constituency revision out
GURGAON: The district administration has prepared a draft schedule for the proposed intensive revision of Electoral rolls of Badshahpur and Gurgaon Assembly constituencies. This comes after the Election Commission of India (ECI) had directed the former to do so. The proposal has been sent to the ECI for its approval after which the task of intensive revision of rolls will be taken up. The four months intensive revision is slated to start from July 10. The final voters list will be ready by November 21.
Labourer arrested for raping 19-year-old
NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old labourer has been arrested on charges of raping a teenaged domestic help a month ago. Identifying the accused as Aalam,police said the woman was left at his house after being brought to the Capital from Patna a month ago. Aalam,a father of four,allegedly raped her earlier this month. Aalam asked his family members to go to the market to buy vegetables and,once they had left,raped the girl in a drunken stupor. He also beat her up and threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident, a police official said. The victim has been sent to a government shelter.
