New Delhi: Can communication from the President or his office be disclosed under the Right to Information Act? Stating that such a communication is “protected” from disclosure,the President’s Secretariat has raised the issue before the Delhi High Court in a writ petition. The petition challenged a CIC directive,seeking disclosure of the communication between then President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on the Padma Awards. It was sought by activist S C Agrawal in his RTI application.

Income Tax dept JC,Inspector held for graft

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),on Wednesday,arrested a Joint Commissioner and an Inspector of the Income Tax department in a case of alleged corruption. CBI officials said that Arun Gurjar,a 1999-batch Indian Revenue Service officer,and Baljit Singh,Inspector,were arrested following a complaint from a grain merchant. Singh was apprehended while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant at Gurjar’s office. The Joint Commissioner was out for a meeting when the money was given.

Motorcyclists rob contractor of Rs 6 lakh

New Delhi: A contractor,Arun Bansal,was robbed of Rs 6 lakh in Rohini Sector 9,at 10.30 am on Wednesday. According to the police,nobody could identify the robbers because they were wearing helmets and had reportedly removed the number plate of their motorcycle.
