Blueline hits five on Safdarjung flyover
A Blueline bus,plying on route 540 (from Safdarjung to Tara Apartments) rammed into five pedestrians near the Safdarjung flyover at 8.45 pm on Monday. According to the police,all five injured are recovering at the Safdarjung Hospital. One of the victims has fractured a leg; the severity of the injuries of the rest is not clear. The driver of the bus abandoned the vehicle at the accident site and is now absconding. The bus was impounded.
Man gets life term for killing friend
A Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a friend who resisted his sexual advances. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on Hasibul Rehman. Upset with his friend Tarikul for spurning his advances,Rehman had attacked him with a soft drink bottle,smashed it on his head and fatally injured him on February 19,2007 in their house,said the prosecution. Tarikul and Rehman were sharing a room with three others at Shakarpur in East Delhi.
Court dismisses bail plea of IAS officer
A Tis Hazari Court on Monday rejected the bail petition of suspended IAS officer Ravi Inder Singh,accused of passing official information from the Home Ministry to unauthorised persons. Singh was posted as Director (Internal Security) in the Home Ministry. Vineet Kumar,CMD of Kolkata-based Temptation Food Pvt Ltd,was allegedly acting as his middleman. Both were arrested by the Special Cell on November 23.
Ground-handling policy our area,Centre to HC
The Union government on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that due to security reasons,the government has decided to implement the ground-handling policy in airports,prohibiting the airlines from continuing the service by themselves. Appearing for the Ministry of Civil Aviation,Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium told the court that the presence of a large number of employees from various airlines creates a security concern in airports. He was responding to a petition filed by the Federation of Indian Airlines,which has alleged that the prohibitory June 2 notification issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation should be set aside.
Youth shot dead in store after row
A 23-year-old employee of a pharmacy store was shot dead in Dwarka area on Monday. The police suspect personal enmity and have registered a case. The incident happened around 5 am when Babu Lal,who worked in the Dwarka Sector 4 market,was approached by two youths. They had an argument and then shot at Babu. He died on the spot, said a police officer. The assailants took Rs 1,640 from Lals wallet and Rs 10,000 from the store.
