Anand Vihar flyover in Delhi gets a fresh deadline — August end
Once the flyover opens, about 1.48 lakh vehicles are expected to use this stretch on average every day. Commuters can save 11.07 minutes on one side, 16.57 lakh litres of fuel every year, and manpower equivalent to 42,700 hours

Soon, commuters can expect a smooth ride from Ghaziabad and East Delhi towards Central and New Delhi as the much-awaited flyover between Anand Vihar Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Apsara Border is expected to be ready by the end of August, said officials from the Public Works Department (PWD).
More than 95% of the civil work has been completed.
The six-lane and 1.2-km-long flyover coming up on road number 56 will ease movement between East, Northeast and Central Delhi as three major red light junctions between Ramprastha Nagar, Surya Nagar, and Shrestha Vihar will become signal-free, said officials.
Travel between Seemapuri and Anand Vihar will also be smooth with no red lights, they added.
When construction began on this stretch, two railway overbridges near Anand Vihar railway station were closed, causing massive congestion around the station and the two ISBTs (one in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi and one in Delhi).

“Anand Vihar is one of the most important transit hubs that connects East Delhi with Ghaziabad and Noida. The stretch also covers areas like Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, and other surrounding areas. It also has three major junctions — these will be free of traffic once the flyover opens to the public,” said officials.
The project had faced several challenges and missed two deadlines — the first one being December 2023 and then in April 2024.
“One of the key challenges was getting permission from the forest department to cut trees… Similar issues have cropped up in the way of completing the ramps… for this, we need to get permission from the central government,” said officials.
The sanctioned cost for this flyover was Rs 372 crore.
Currently, more than one lakh vehicles ply on the route. It is also one of 77 traffic hotspots identified by the Delhi Traffic Police in 2019 as part of their plan to decongest major routes in the city.
Once the flyover opens, about 1.48 lakh vehicles are expected to use this stretch on average every day. Commuters can save 11.07 minutes on one side, 16.57 lakh litres of fuel every year, and manpower equivalent to 42,700 hours
per day. Besides, Rs 144.78 crore will be saved annually, said officials.
Construction of the Rapid Rail station is underway in the area. Once it is ready, Anand Vihar will become a major transit hub.
Besides, the PWD is also beautifying footpaths and areas beneath the flyover along with installing road signages, street lights, murals and other allied works to ensure pedestrian safety.
