John Abraham to star in a movie based on Mohun Bagan football club’s historic 1911 win.By: Express Features Service
John Abraham is currently busy shooting for Piku, with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan. However, Shoojit Sircar is simultaneously working on the script with John Abraham.
The duo has previously worked together in two films — Abraham produced Sircar’s directorial venture Vicky Donor and was the lead actor in Madras Cafe. Early last year, Abraham had announced his plans to back a film on soccer, which will be directed by Sircar. The film will be based on a 1911 match between the Calcutta-based football club Mohun Bagan and an English team. By defeating the East Yorkshire Regiment 2-1 in the iconic match, Mohun Bagan became the first Indian team to lift the IFA Shield.
The film, Abraham hopes, will find takers in the recent crop of soccer enthusiasts that have emerged after the launch of Indian Super League in 2014. The actor, a sports enthusiast, will also be part of the film.
