Accused cop dismissed from service

Police terminated the services of a head constable,accused of shooting a businessman dead and grievously injuring a youth who was helping a policeman chase him.

Police terminated the services of a head constable,accused of shooting a businessman dead and grievously injuring a youth who was helping a policeman chase him. Police also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the youth,who later died in hospital.

The accused,identified as head constable Ajay Singh Tomar,shot a policeman from Old Delhi and fatally wounded 24-year-old Sunny,who was helping the policeman nab Tomar. “Tomar has been dismissed from service. We have invoked Article 311(2) to dismiss him without an inquiry,” said a senior police officer.

Tomar allegedly fired four rounds at Amarjeet Singh Chaddha and Sunny around 9 pm on Saturday in Lahori Gate. Police said he fired at Chaddha,a dry fruits wholesaler from Khari Baoli in Chandni Chowk,and later fired and grievously injured Sunny who was helping head constable Surender Tyagi chase him.

Sunny,who was shot in the neck,died after battling for life at St Stephen’s Hospital. Tomar jumped from a bridge to flee,suffering a fracture in his leg.

Tomar was inducted into Delhi Police in 1995,and posted in 7th Battalion.
