Two dead as SUV crashes into divider, collides with two cars

Delhi Police are on the lookout for the SUV driver who fled the scene following the accident.

Two persons died and one was injured when an SUV allegedly hit a divider and crashed into two vehicles on the opposite lane in the early hours of Sunday on the Noida Link Road, said police, adding that a hunt has been launched to trace the SUV driver who has been absconding since the accident.

“According to the complainant, Aakash Basisea, he was traveling from Noida to Delhi in his Maruti Baleno when a black Mahindra Bolero, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into a divider and then hit his car before crashing into a taxi that had three people onboard,” said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi). The incident was reported at 1.14 am.

“The taxi driver, identified as Arjun Singh Solanki, and a female passenger, Suman Dhoopra, died on the spot while another passenger, Sanjeev Dhoopra (Suman’s husband) was severely injured. The couple was rushed to Kailash Hospital in Sector 27 in Noida where Suman was declared dead,” the DCP said, adding that Sanjeev was unable to give a statement to police due to his injuries.

Dhania said that efforts are being made to trace and arrest the driver of the Mahindra Bolero who fled the scene following the crash.

“Police have registered an FIR under sections 281, 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 324(3) (loss or damage to property) of the BNS at Mayur Vihar Police Station based on Aakash’s statement, and the investigation is currently underway,” he added.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for postmortem.

Another police officer said that the deceased taxi driver was a native of Khurja in Uttar Pradesh and had been living in a rented accommodation in Dadri, Greater Noida.

He was the sole breadwinner of his family and is survived by his wife, and two children, aged 8 and 6 years.

The officer further said that Suman Dhoopra (63) and Sanjeev Dhoopra (67), a chartered accountant, were going to their home in Gurgaon from Noida when the accident happened.

The complaint, Aakash, works with a Noida-based firm.
