The Aam Aadmi Party was on Monday caught in a controversy after supporters of the party were seen throwing around currency notes during celebrations following Delhi Cantonment election results. The party has since suspended a local volunteer who reportedly scattered the notes.
“We don’t approve of this kind of conduct. One person, a local volunteer, has been suspended after he was seen throwing money around in a video,” AAP spokesperson Ashutosh said.
Hours before the Election Commission announced dates of Delhi Assembly polls, AAP supporters were caught on camera throwing wades of money in the air. The incident took place in Delhi Cantonment area.
In the polls, AAP’s Nand Kishor Beniwal won one seat out of eight. Talking about the incident, Beniwal said, “We did not know that this was happening till we saw news reports. We don’t even know if these people are with the party or from other political parties.”
