A police station just for visitors

The newly created Commonwealth Games police station inside the Games Village will be exclusively for the complaints of athletes.

The newly created Commonwealth Games police station inside the Games Village will be exclusively for the complaints of athletes,team managements and coaches as well as employees and members of the Organising Committee.

The computerised police station is located in a temporary structure inside the Village and will function only from October 3 to 14. The police station has a staff of approximately 60 personnel,including three Inspectors,seven Sub-Inspectors,10 Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 40 Head Constables and Constables. The SHO will be Inspector Ashok Kumar Sharma.

“All officers posted in this police station speak good English and are technology savvy,” said a senior police officer. They will also respond to any crime or complaint from the athletes and Games officials at the 13 venues,practice venues and the Games Village. “As soon as some athlete reports a crime,a case would be registered and investigated. The cases of sensitive nature would be investigated by ACP Rajender Bakshi of Crime Branch,” said an officer. After the games are over,all the cases of this police station would be transferred to the Crime Branch. However,the Delhi Police is not expecting many serious cases to land up at the station. Crime related to spectators at the venues will be handled by the local police stations.
