Delhi polls 2015: 600 PCR calls on election day, 6 FIRs

Of the six FIRs, three were submitted to the Election Commission, police said.

Around 600 calls, including EVM-related complaints, were made to police on Saturday when the city went to vote. Of these, only six complaints were converted into FIRs. Most complaints were from the trans-Yamuna area.

Police received a total of 594 PCR calls on Saturday. Of the six FIRs, three were submitted to the Election Commission, police said.

Police said they received 50 calls on law and order issues reported from across the capital on polling day. Police received nine calls related to EVMs, including ones alleging tampering, though police found no merit in these complaints, a senior police officer said. Besides, 160 calls were regarding minor scuffles and 375 on miscellaneous issues.

Of the three FIRs sent to the Election Commission, two were from Northeast district and one from East district. Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern range) Sanjay Beniwal said, “A member of a Hindu rightwing group was arrested under Section 125 of the Representation of People Act for allegedly creating communal disharmony by distributing pamphlets in Nandnagri of Northeast district on Saturday. Forty pamphlets were recovered from him.

The other FIR was registered against a driver who was transporting 108 cartons of liquor in Jyoti Nagar area of Northeast district on polling day. He has been taken into remand and we are trying to track down his associate. The third FIR was registered against AAP workers for trespassing into somebody’s house on Friday night in Vivek Vihar area of East district.”

Police received several complaints of sale and distribution of liquor in the city despite dry day being officially observed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as per rules of the model code of conduct. AAP workers had on Friday night gheraoed and entered the house of BJP leader Jitender Singh Shunty in Shahdara, alleging he had stored cartons of liquor for illegal distribution a day before the city went to vote, a charge police said was false.

Police have not been able to trace the two accused who allegedly shot a 62-year-old woman in Northeast Delhi’s Khajoori Khas.
