6 projects cleared for Commonwealth Games,Rs 109 crore sanctioned

The Expenditure Finance Committee cleared six Commonwealth games projects on Monday at meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) cleared six Commonwealth games projects on Monday at meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. A total of Rs 109 crore was sanctioned for the projects.

Dikshit said Rs 50 crore was sanctioned for park-and-ride and holding facility at the Safdarjung Airport and Rs 19.82 crore for development of park-and-ride facility for buses near Raj Ghat Power Plant.

The construction at Safdarjung Airport will include improvement of junctions at Aurobindo Marg and Data Ram Bhutani Marg,widening of the road from Data Ram Bhutani Marg to Flying Club and improvement of footpaths. There will also be construction of utility structures,installation of close circuit television cameras and security equipment and road signs.

At Raj Ghat,construction will include development of park-and-ride facilities for buses,widening of existing one-lane road to two-lane from Raj Ghat Power Cooling Plant to Geeta Colony Bridge and construction of two-lane road from park-and-ride to Yamuna Barrage.

An amount of Rs 7.95 crore has been sanctioned for development of DTC sites — for baggage scanning machines — at Ring Road opposite Millennium Park. The work at the facility,which will be for scanning the goods and baggage of athletes and Games officials,will be completed within seven months.

The Chief Minister said Rs 8.17 crore has been sanctioned for streetscaping and beautification of Bhairon Marg,which is one of the connecting links between Dhyan Chand Stadium and Games Village. The work will be completed within 13 months.

The EFC also sanctioned Rs 11.41 crore for improvement of footpaths in trans-Yamuna area on total length of more than 70 km road. The work will be completed within six months. An amount of Rs 11.83 crore has been sanctioned for various construction works at Road No 56,opposite Anand Vihar,ISBT,with an aim to remove traffic bottlenecks between Apsara Border and Gazipur Border Grade Separators. The work would be completed within nine months.
