4-year-old killed by speeding tempo,driver held

A four-year-old boy was killed when a speeding tempo ran him over in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area on Monday evening,police said. The driver has been arrested.

A four-year-old boy was killed when a speeding tempo ran him over in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area on Monday evening,police said. The driver has been arrested.

The incident was reported at 5.30 pm when the victim,Krishna,and his parents were travelling on their scooty. The three were returning to their residence in Rajgarh colony via the Lal Quarter market.

“They were passing a garbage dump where a dumper truck was being loaded. From the opposite side,a tempo with a UP number-plate was approaching them. On the right of the road was a parking area,and the vehicles had encroached on the road space.

Realising that the tempo was speeding,the victim’s father,Gulshan Manchanda (28),swerved the scooty towards a heap of garbage on the left side of the road. The scooty toppled and the child came under the wheels of the tempo,” said a senior police officer,adding that the child died on the spot.

While the family was rushed to a nearby hospital,locals set fire to cars parked nearby and caught hold of the tempo driver. Police was informed at 5.40 pm.

“Krishna was declared dead on arrival at the Hedgewar Hospital,while his parents were discharged after first-aid. The driver,identified as Ganga Sharan (35),has been arrested and the tempo impounded,” said the officer. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered.

In another incident,a 45-year-old autorickshaw driver was killed when a speeding truck ran him over in Mayur Vihar area on Monday morning. The victim,Mohammad Abdul,was driving towards Noida when the accident occurred.
