The Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Wednesday rescued a three-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from her village in Noida, nearly a month ago.
Police said the girl had gone missing from her home in Aghapur village on March 27. Deva, a neighbour, had also gone missing around the same period. The girl’s father had filed an FIR alleging that Deva had kidnapped her.
DSP Rajkumar Mishra said, “On March 27, the girl’s father, Hemant Kanaujia, informed us that his daughter had been allegedly kidnapped by his neighbour Deva and an FIR was filed at the Sector-49 police station.”
Based on this information, police said they attempted to trace Deva. “Teams were sent to Ghaziabad, where Deva’s relatives lived. They confirmed that he had come to the house with the girl but left soon after. Further investigation revealed that he had taken the girl to Hamirpur and Mahoba districts in Uttar Pradesh. On Wednesday evening, he was traced to Sector-71, but he caught wind of the police operation and fled, abandoning the girl at an isolated spot,” Mishra said.
Police said the motive for the kidnapping is yet unknown. A hunt is on to nab Deva.
“A medical examination of the girl has ruled out any sexual or physical assault. No ransom call was made. Motive can be ascertained only after the arrest of the accused,” Mishra said.
A senior officer said, “The girl has not spoken much since she was found. However, she told her parents that she lived in a house with a woman. We are trying to identify this person. Further investigations are under way.”
