The Delhi Police arrested three members of Portugal-based gangster Himanshu Bhau following an encounter in Rohini’s Begumpur area in the early hours of Saturday, the Delhi Police said.

The arrested people identified as Atul, Rohit, and Prince were travelling on a motorcycle when they were spotted near Prem Adhe Road in Begumpur, the police said.

“When the police attempted to stop the vehicle, one of the suspects opened fire at the police party that were chasing them. In retaliation, we opened fire at them following which they fell on the road with their vehicle,” the police officer said.

Atul, a resident of Dariyapur in Delhi, received a bullet injury in his leg, and has been admitted to hospital, while Rohit, of Auchandib, and Prince of Sonipat, Haryana, were taken into custody, he said.

The police said the three suspects operated for gangsters Himanshu Bhau and Neeraj Bawana gangs. While Bawana is lodged in Tihar jail, Bhau currently runs his network virtually from Portugal, posing a challenge for the police forces of Delhi and Haryana.

Since escaping from the juvenile home, Bhau has accumulated over 20 criminal cases, at least 16 related to murder and attempt to murder. He has Interpol red notice issued against him, and is on the radar of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
