A Sessions Court in Gautam Budh Nagar on Saturday convicted three persons for the abduction of then three-year-old Anant Gupta from his Noida home in November 2006. Four others were given the benefit of doubt and let off.
On November 14,2006,Anant,son of the Adobe CEO Naresh Gupta,was kidnapped while he was waiting for his school bus outside his Noida Sector-15 residence. Three days later,the kidnappers were caught in Mathura and Rs 50 lakh,paid as ransom,was recovered by the UP Police.
The court will hear the arguments on the quantum of punishment on Monday.
Presiding judge Navin Kumar Srivastava pronounced the three accused Chatrapal,Pawan and Jitender guilty of kidnapping for ransom and wrongful confinement. The three face a maximum punishment of death or life imprisonment with fine.
During the course of hearings,Anant had identified the accused,saying they had kept him in custody for three days.
Additional district government counsel Rajbir Singh,a public prosecutor in the case,said,Chatrapal had a previous criminal history and had escaped from police custody two years ago.
None of Anants family members were present at the hearing.
Arguments still remain for the quantum of sentence,but we feel that justice has been done, said Singh.
