Tightening security measures just before the Hockey World Cup tournament commences on February 28,the government plans to deploy around 200 commandos and 1,000 personnel of the Central Paramilitary Forces.
The move comes in the wake of terror blast at the German Bakery in Pune,which killed 10 people and injured over 50.
Sources said 200 commandos,skilled in sharp shooting,will man high-rise buildings around the venue the National Stadium.
Home Secretary Gopal K Pillai said the government has put in place a very elaborate (security) arrangement for the tournament.
India will be hosting the Hockey World Cup after 18 years. The tournament was last held in the country in 1982 (in Mumbai),when Pakistan had lifted the cup. The tournament,which ends on March 13,will see participation by 10 countries and around 400 players and delegates.
