Utsav Sharma, who attacked Rajesh Talwar inside the premises of a Ghaziabad court on Tuesday, has been remanded in judicial custody till February 8.

Talwar was at the court to file an objection petition against the closure report of his daughter Arushi’s murder case. Sharma was produced before judge Preeti Singh on Wednesday, who sent him in judicial custody.

Thirty-year-old Sharma,a graduate from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, has been charged with attempt to murder for attacking Talwar (54) with a meat cleaver.

Talwar suffered deep cuts on his face and hands and is recuperating at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Though one of the cuts is very close to his eye, doctors at the hospital said his eye has been saved. He is currently in the ICU.

“Dr Rajesh Talwar was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital on Tuesday with multiple injuries. He is stable and continues to be managed by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors in the Intensive Care Unit,” a statement from the hospital said.

A doctor at the hospital, meanwhile, said that facial reconstruction surgery was conducted on Talwar on Wednesday and he is recovering well. A reconstructive surgery on his hand is likely to be performed on Thursday.

The next hearing,on the objection to the CBI closure report,is on February 8 when the investigation agency will present its arguments on the 82-page objection application filed by the Talwars.
