MLA-businessman Anand Singh of Bellary,who has been summoned by the CBI probing the large-scale export of stolen iron ore from Belekeri Port during 2009-10,has sought anticipatory bail.
The independent MLA from Hospet,who was earlier with the BJP,fears arrest as two other MLAs arrested last week,T H Suresh Babu and Satish Sail,were similarly summoned by the CBI for questioning regarding involvement of their companies in the illegal mining business.
Singhs mining company SB Minerals is suspected of extracting and exporting illegal iron on a large scale.
Meanwhile,retired additional chief secretary of the Karnataka government N Viswanathan (72),who was arrested by the CBI in June in another illegal mining case,was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court.
The 1966-batch IAS officer is accused of enabling encroachment of a mining lease belonging to National Mineral Development Corporation by Deccan Mining Syndicate (DMS) during his tenure as commerce and industries secretary in 1996.
Police inspector Ramakanth Hullar,who is alleged to have aided DMS in the transport of illegal ore and was arrested by the CBI earlier in the year,was also granted bail.
