90 Southern Railway stations to get a facelift under Amrit Bharat scheme
According to the officials, a total of 15 stations each of the six divisions have been identified for development.

Southern Railway has identified 90 stations for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The scheme aims at preparation of master plans of railway stations and implementation of them in a phased manner to enhance the facilities at railway stations.
According to the officials, a total of 15 stations each of the six divisions have been identified for development.
Master plans have been prepared by the consultant and approved by the Railway administration for all the 90 stations.
Based on this plan, work to be done under Phase-I have been identified and tender for developmental works have already been awarded for 35 stations. The process for finalising tenders is in final stages for the remaining stations, the officials added.
In the inaugural phase, of the total stations, 60 are in the divisions of Chennai, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, and Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
Some of the stations identified in Chennai for facelift include beach, park, Guindy, St Thomas Mount, Guduvancherry, as well as Ambattur, Perambur, Tiruvallur, etc. Of the total Rs 934 crore sanctioned for the project for the six divisions, the Chennai zone has been accorded Rs 251.97 crore for carrying out 45 works.
The officials noted that the scheme aims to cater to new amenities for passengers as well as up gradation and replacement of existing amenities.
The facilities intended to be implemented at the stations include foot over bridges, escalators and lifts, two wheeler/four wheeler parking area,landscaping/horticulture, integrated passenger information system, signages, improvements to platform and platform shelters, benches and wash basins, better illumination and power supply arrangements, CCTV among others.
