History-sheeter hacked to death by gang in Chennai, 8 arrested

A 23-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death by a gang of eight men near Maduravoyal in Chennai Monday evening, said the police.
According to the police, V Rajesh, a resident of Jayaram Nagar in Red Fort, was riding his motorcycle on 5th Street, Kandhasamy Nagar in Maduravoyal, when the gang waylaid him.
A case was registered at the T-4 Maduravoyal police station in connection with the incident. The police formed special teams to identify the accused and arrested them Tuesday.
The police identified the accused as A Suresh, 38; R Venkatesan, 33; M Jayavarma Pandian, 25; K Gagil, 23; S Nithivadivel, 20; B Devaraj, 21; E Yuvaraj, 28; and R Gopi, 25. They seized three bikes and five machetes from the accused.
The police said during the investigation, they found that Rajesh, who had eight robbery cases against him, allegedly attacked Suresh during an argument on Monday morning. To take revenge, Suresh and his accomplices killed Rajesh, the police said.
According to the police, the main accused Suresh already has seven pending cases, including two murders and one attempt to murder, against him. The other accused have robbery and extortion cases against him, the police said.
The accused were produced before a magistrate and later remanded in judicial custody.
