GCC Mayor launches drone fogging at Chennai’s Otteri Nullah

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCP) Mayor R Priya Wednesday launched drone fogging at Otteri Nullah in the city. The civic body later said drone fogging will be carried out at other water bodies and canals of the city to control the menace of mosquitoes.

Addressing the media, Priya said until last March, as many as 31 people were affected by dengue and this year, due to the mosquito control operations of the civic body, the number of cases has come down to 18.

The Mayor said post the heavy rains in November and December, and after the Michaung Cyclone, the corporation has been fogging water bodies, canals and storm water drains.

Further, she said that based on complaints received from the residents in various parts of the city, the GCC was involved in door-to-door source reduction activities.

It was noted that a total of 410 compression sprayers, 109 power sprayers, 287 knapsack battery sprayers, 219 hand-operated fogging machines, eight mini fogging machines and 68 vehicle-mounted fogging machines were utilised for mosquito control work.

The GCC is aiming to use six drone machines for fogging this year.
