Express photoPopular actor Gautami Tadimalla joined the AIADMK on Wednesday, months after she quit the BJP citing lack of support. She said people would be aware of how high she held former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in her heart.
“I feel so happy to join the party in the presence of Edappadi. Everyone knows that if I take responsibility I will work on it in a full-fledged manner. I believe that I have got the right platform now to work with more vigour,” she told reporters outside the residence of Edappadi K Palaniswami, AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister.
Gautami said that Palaniswami’s idea of “bringing everyone together and working together” had attracted her and that she had joined the right party to serve the people of the state. The actor added that she had full trust in Palaniswami, “who leads the party along the path shown by Amma (Jayalalithaa)”.
Gautami announced her resignation from the BJP in a statement last October. She said that it was with a heavy heart and deep disillusionment that she quit the party that she had joined 25 years before.
It was in September 2023 that the AIADMK severed its ties with the saffron party.
