In a major reshuffle of IAS officers in Tamil Nadu, Additional Chief Secretary J Radhakrishnan Monday took charge as the Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner, a position he held around 23 years ago when Chief Minister MK Stalin served as the mayor of Chennai.

Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who has been serving as the Chennai Corporation commissioner ever since the Stalin-led government assumed power in 2021, will now be the principal secretary to the Health and Family Welfare Department, as per the reshuffle announced by Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu.

After meeting Mayor R Priya and Deputy Mayor Mahesh Kumar, Radhakrishnan told the media that a lot of things were being planned, and he was hopeful that with the team of bright young IAS officers, he would be able to achieve the vision of Chief Minister Stalin to take the administration of the civic body a notch higher.

He noted that officials would be provided instructions to resolve the grievances soon at the ground level without making the public wait longer. “I am a team person. I believe that everyone in the team is equally important. We will focus more on field inspection and providing localised solutions. Equal importance would be provided not just for areas within the city but for other border areas as well,” he said.

The commissioner also spoke about responsive and transparent administration and planned to adopt a simple administrative procedure across all departments.

Other notable changes made by the state government include the transfer of Stalin’s Principal Secretary T Udhayachandran to the Department of Finance. N Muruganandam has replaced him.

Home, Prohibition and Excise Department Secretary K Phanindra Reddy has been replaced by P Amudha, who earlier served as the principal secretary of the Rural Department and Panchayat Raj Department. Reddy has been transferred to the Transport Department.
