47th Chennai Book Fair attracts 15 lakh visitors; books worth over Rs 18 crore sold

The 47th Chennai Book Fair, organized by the BookSellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), concluded on Sunday, attracting a commendable turnout of 15 lakh visitors.

The event, held at the YMCA near Nandanam in Chennai, featured the active participation of renowned literary personalities who shared insights on the evolving landscape of literature.

The fair, inaugurated on January 3 by Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin, witnessed the sale of books worth Rs 18 crore.

With a total of 900 stalls, the event boasted the presence of notable publishers, including South India Buddha Vihar, Voice of Buddha, Ezhuchi Publication House, Thadagam Publications, and Thirunangai Press LLP.

Open from 11 am to 8.30 pm on holidays and 2 pm to 8.30 pm on working days, the fair allowed readers to explore a diverse array of books in multiple languages, genres, and subjects. All books were available at a discounted rate of 10 per cent.

Throughout the event panel discussions and book launches were organized and writers also engaged in interactions with visitors, promoting the joy of reading.
