District Project Director,Department of Child and Women Welfare, directed to issue notice to the home for destitute
A day after Ashianaa home for destitute childrenallegedly turned out a 14-year-old girl,Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Yadav has asked the department concerned to take action against the centre.
Issuing verbal instructions to District Project Director,Department of Child and Women Welfare,Suraj Lamba, the DC asked her to first issue a notice to the destitute home for explaining their case and take appropriate action after ascertaining all the facts.
The girl,Kamaljit, had been staying in Ashiana,an NGO running since 1982,for the last nine years. In December, she went to stay with her aunt for a few days. When she returned on Wednesday, the authorities at the home refused to take her back, citing poor performance in academics as the reason. I have asked Lamba to look into the matter. Prima facie it appears that the girl should be allowed to return. If at fault, strict action will be taken against Ashiana. The annual grant to the destitute home may also be stopped, said Yadav. The notice to Ashiana will be issued on Saturday morning, said Lamba.
