What’s in a Face

Photographer Manan Kapoor strives to show what he found in the narrow streets of remote villages.

An elderly person stares into nothingness,while a section of wrinkled faces remind one of unfulfilled promises. But there is no pathos; it’s a celebration of the years accumulated. Photographer Manan Kapoor strives to show what he found in the narrow streets of remote villages,on the wide roads of Chandigarh and the hills of Himachal. The human angle is what Kapoor captures,questioning our relationship with others. We all have emotions and we act on the basis of what we feel. Do we give the emotions enough importance? “The human eye forgets but a Nikon doesn’t. That’s what I have presented through these pictures — emotions,” says the 20-year-old,who is showcasing his photographs at Alliance Francaise. In one of the photographs,he adds,the very shadow of the person in the frame should be fixed forever. “When you capture a shot,you see something as it has never been seen before,you turn people and emotions into objects. Your picture might be anything but as long as it talks to you,it’s good,” he says. The exhibition is on till December 20.
