VB arrests another accused in guava tree compensation scam in Mohali
A spokesperson of the VB said Bansal was a partner in the firm, ‘Aggarwal Steel Industries’, along with Chanchal Kumar and his wife Praveen Lata, a resident of Bathinda.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday arrested Satish Bansal, a resident of Vishal Nagar, Bathinda, who is accused in the guava tree compensation scam which happened at Bakarpur village.
A spokesperson of the VB said Bansal was a partner in the firm, ‘Aggarwal Steel Industries’, along with Chanchal Kumar and his wife Praveen Lata, a resident of Bathinda. In this case, Parveen Lata and Mukesh Jindal, brother of Chanchal Kumar, are accused and behind bars. He said that Aggarwal Steel Industries through Satish Bansal, Praveen Lata and Des Raj, father of Mukesh Jindal, purchased three acres of land in equal shares at Bakarpur village in February 2018.
After purchasing the land, they planted guava saplings on this land as they were well aware that this land was likely to be acquired. The said accused, in connivance with officials concerned of the revenue department, horticultural department and GMADA, got crores of rupees as wrongful compensation by showing that the saplings had been planted since 2016.
The spokesperson said with the active association of mastermind Bhupinder Singh, Mukesh Jindal and others, Satish Bansal claimed and received a compensation of Rs 1.54 crore for the plants in his 12 kanal 13 marla land, whereas his firm was owner of only eight kanals.
Moreover, the land acquisition officer, GMADA, had issued compensation for guava plants on the basis of self-claimed possession of the land/orchard to the owners, including Satish Bansal, whereas, most of the land has joint ownership and partition/division of shares was not done amongst the co-owners. Further investigation in this case was in progress, he added.
