Utsav Sharma, who was produced in the court on Wednesday, was sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

The police said he stabbed former DGP S P S Rathore because he was “mentally ill”. “He said nothing during the 24 hours he was in police custody. He is disturbed,” a police officer said.

“The mother and maternal uncle of the accused also suffer from the same mental disorder, known as bipolar disorder, and experience bouts of depression,” a UT police sub-inspector told Newsline.

When asked why he stabbed Rathore,Utsav told mediapersons: “I don’t know what’s happening to me. I have no feeling. I don’t know what to say. I can’t decide.”

The police said they had received a fax from Utsav’s doctor, which said he was under treatment. The defence counsel, meanwhile, moved the bail application of Utsav, which will be heard on Thursday.
