Indu Bala,Neerja Jain and Om Parkash Manauli ,three of the UT cadre teachers from city government schools have been selected for the National Award for teaching by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. The awards will be presented to the teachers by President Pratibha Patil at a function in New Delhi on September 5.
Neerja Jain,Lecturer in English,Government Model Senior School (GMSSS) Sector 16 Teaching English for the past 23 years,she has been guiding her students in achieving excellence in academics and all forms of extra-curricular activities. She was one of the thirteen teachers selected from India in 2007 for a professional development program in University of California,Los Angeles.
She has conducted many In-Service Teacher Training workshops in government schools. She was also invited as the resource person for the training of Indian and Pakistani teachers in a workshop organised by United States India Education Foundation.
She has been honoured by Chandigarh Administration with a Commendation Certificate in 2009 and a state award in 2010. In addition,Jain has also been the recipient of Tara Chand Saboo Award for excellence in school teaching in 2009.
Om Parkash Manauli,environment teacher at Government Model Senior secondary School (GMSSS) Sector 46 Apart from being a teacher,he is an environmentalist,a writer and a philanthropist. He is associated with many NGOs and environmental projects. He is the chief coordinator and in-charge of all Eco-Clubs in Chandigarh government schools. He is the editor of the booklet Voice of the Camphor Eco-Club brought out by GMSSS,Sector 35 and Voice of the Sohanjana Eco-Club GMSSS Sector 46. Sohanjana Eco-Club under his supervision bagged the Best Eco-Club award title and Special Achievement Award 2011. Education Department,Chandigarh Administration awarded him Certificate of Merit on Teachers Day 1996 for his distinguished services to the cause of education. He also received state award on Teachers Day in 1997 in public recognition of his services to the community as a teacher of outstanding merit.
Indu Bala,Sarthak government integrated model senior secondary,Panchkula .She is currently serving as the principal of Sarthak school. A teacher of political science,she began her career in 1989. Having taught in various rural and urban schools in the region,she has provided free uniforms and books to a number of needy students.
She was promoted as the principal of Government Senior Secondary School,Sector 27,Chandigarh in 2003. She then served as the principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Manimajra from 2005 to 2009.
