While the Human Resource Development Ministry had declared Panjab University as a non-central university and asked it not to implement the 27 per cent OBC quota reservation for the current session, the authorities have reportedly failed to intimate the same to its departments. Consequently, the University Business School (UBS) has delayed its interview call to students.
The entrance to UBS is based on the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT). Alike other management institutes,UBS makes interview calls to students after the CAT
results. This year, however, the department is yet to make its calls.
It is to be noted that a similar condition had prevailed in the past year also and the department had made calls as late as in March.
On the delay in interview calls,Chairperson of the Department Prof Dinesh Gupta said,We are waiting for the communication regarding the OBC quota and as soon as we get the same we will go ahead with the calls. Its not that late and we will make the interview calls soon.
The students, meanwhile, are looking for different options.
One of the MBA aspirants,Nidhi, said,Institutes should not delay the admission procedure. Not many students wait for a particular institute to announce admissions. With a delay in UBS interview calls,I have started looking for other options before admissions get over elsewhere.
Earlier in the year,Panjab University had implemented the OBC quota for the current academic session but later the MHRD asked the university to withdraw the same as it was not a central university.
As per the MHRD directives, from the coming academic session,PU will not implement the OBC quota system and no seats will be reserved under the category.
