Two weeks after launch, mini AC bus routes restructured

Two weeks after the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking introduced 17 mini air-conditioned buses in the city, their routes have been redesigned.

Two weeks after the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) introduced 17 mini air-conditioned buses in the city, their routes have been redesigned. While some routes have either been changed or cancelled,a few new routes have been introduced.

After recording poor occupancy for most hours of the day,two routes — number 203 from Railway station to ISBT-17 and number 206 from ISBT-43 to IT Park — were restructured. Mani Majra has been added as a new stop on route 203,which until now saw buses plying from the railway station to Industrial Area-I,Sector-28 market,Sector 19-27 dividing,Sector 20 Masjid and ISBT-17.

For the three buses running from ISBT-43 to IT Park, the route has been extended to Mani Majra. The old route for these buses was ISBT-43 to Attawa,ISBT-17,Madhya Marg,Grain Market,Railway Crossing,Kishangarh and IT Park.

“There was a contrast in the occupancy of AC buses. While the buses generated overwhelming response during office hours with 100 per cent occupancy, the passenger strength on a bus was almost nil during the afternoon. In order to cater to a wider base of people,we have brought some changes in the routes,” said CTU director M L Sharma.

The authorities have also decided to reschedule bus timings in accordance with the arrival and departure hours of the Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express trains. The current service hours for these buses-7 am to 5.30 pm-do not match the Shatabdi timings.

Also, the services of four buses on route number 207-Sector 48 to High Court — have been discontinued. The decision was prompted by the onset of vacations in the High Court.
