A day after the Uttar Pradesh police busted a kidney-selling racket in Lucknow that mentioned the names of two Mohali-based hospitals,Shivalik Hospital (Sector 69) and Silver Oaks Hospital (Phase 9),the case took a curious turn today with the UP cops stating that so far there is nothing concrete against the two hospitals to establish their alleged involvement and their role is not under the scanner. The names of the two hospitals had cropped up when the four arrested accused Hari Shankar Maurya,Dilip Nigam,Vinod Dubey and Harish Prajapati had stated that they had lured seven persons to sell their kidneys to these hospitals.
Speaking to Newsline on phone,DIG D K Thakur said,We arrested four persons on Sunday in this connection. So far,we cannot say anything about the involvement of the two hospitals.
Thakur said,The accused used to contact patients who needed kidneys and then lure poor persons and convince them to sell their kidneys for money. They would produce fake NOCs and produce them at hospitals for conducting unrelated kidney transplants and make money.
We actually helped the Lucknow police in unearthing this racket and have no involvement other than helping the police in this matter, said Shivalik Hospital (Sector 69) Administrator Jashandeep Singh. Silver Oaks Hospital director Dr Manjari Bhargava said,There is nothing illegal in any of the surgeries ever done by us and we have all the records and documents. There is no involvement in any kidney racket.
