High drama was witnessed at the Mauli Jagran complex late last night when a police patrolling party was allegedly roughed up by eight to ten rowdy youths. The police have arrested two persons under a case of attempt to murder,assault on public servant,and rioting. The hunt for the remaining accused is on. One of the identified accused in the case has recently been released on bail,the police said.
Sub-Inspector Gurmukh Singh said an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) was on patrolling duty at Mauli Jagran last night when he got information of a violent scuffle between a few youths in the area. ASI Prem Singh went to the spot,where around 10 youths were fighting.
As he intervened,a heated scuffle ensued following which the youths started pelting stones at the policemen.
The ASI called the control room and additional force was deployed.
After creating ruckus for a while,the youths escaped. They were chased by the police and two of them Arjun and Bunty were arrested.
The police said they had identified the remaining youths who had fled and one of them has already been arrested in a case earlier.
A case under Sections 147,147,149,332,353,307 of the IPC has been registered at the Manimajra police station.
The policemen were injured in the attack and we have registered a case of attempt to murder. The remaining accused will be arrested soon, said Investigating Officer Gurmukh Singh. On Monday,the police had arrested two Mohali residents for assaulting three policemen at a checkpost.
