After the euphoria of the India-Pakistan semi-final encounter of ICC Cricket World Cup last month, the city is keenly waiting to see the Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in action at the PCA Stadium,Mohali. Even through,Dhoni will be leading a different team team Chennai Super Kings against the home team Kings XI Punjab, most of the fans who rooted for the Sangakara-led Kings XI Punjab are sure that they will be cheering for ‘Mahi’ during the match.

“MS Dhoni is no doubt a very good player. In the World Cup,he played very well as well as he led the team in a perfect manner. I am very sure that in the IPL matches he will give us the chance to watch the best play. Apart from his batting, his captaincy skills are something which I like the most. Through out the match,he keeps chatting with the players and his enthusiasm is terrific on the field,” says Sandeep Sharma,an employee with the Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP).

The euphoria might not be like the first edition of IPL but whoever has got the tickets will be looking to see Mahi’s captaincy skills against the skills of Aussie Adam Gilchrist.

“IPL matches are gaining popularity at a rapid rate. In this World Cup,India created a history. The home team is playing very badly. There is no Yuvraj playing in the team; so we will be hardly cheering for the home team. There are very less players from Punjab in the team and we do not know many players,” says B S Dogra,a businessman based in the city.

Along with Dhoni, other members of Indian World Cup winning squad like Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin will also be in action for Chennai Super Kings during the match. While MS Dhoni and Raina came together from Delhi on Monday night in their own car,the rest of the team had come earlier.

The team along with Mahendra Singh Dhoni took part in a practice session in the afternoon at PCA Stadium.

“Apart from MS Dhoni,we will be cheering for Suresh Raina and Ashwin. They did well for India in the World Cup and played an instrumental role in helping India win the World Cup. We are happy that we are getting a chance to see them in the first home match of the Kings XI Punjab. The nest match we will see will be of Mumbai Indians on May 10. We will only come to see that match to watch Sachin tendulkar in action,” says Jagpreet Sandhu,a student.
