‘Tricity govts should work with coherence’

The main agenda of “Vision Chandigarh” was how the management can work with the citizens to make Chandigarh a better place to live. Jain suggested that the governments of the tricity should be working in coherence. There should be sharing of resources like land,electricity and accommodation between Chandigarh,Panchkula and Mohali.

To control the traffic,Jain suggested the construction of fly overs for important places like airport and railway station as Chandigarh is the major transit for the states of Haryana,Punjab and Himachal. He also suggested that the sub-ways to be made for inter-city commuting.

Jain said,“its been 10 years since the idea of metro was introduced. But till date no firm decision has been taken irrespective of whichever governing party is in power.”

For the water problems,he suggested that a dam to be built on Gagger instead of depending upon the 35Km long water supply from Khajoli. If a dam is built on Gaggar,the surrounding areas will be relieved of July floods.

Highlighting his concern in the education sector he said,“All the children from the surrounding states come to Chandigarh for their education. But one university is not enough. We need to make provision for everybody so that they have a secured future”.

To maintain law and order,the need of the hour is to have vigilant citizens. Also,to provide all the citizens with apt accommodation facilities. The city does not have proper living conditions for service class. Small flats can be built for them with nominal rents.
