Transfer season on: Teachers bank on political backing

Recommendation letters for the transfer of government school teachers have started flooding the offices of the District Education Officer (DEO) and the Director General School Education (DGSE).

Under the system of rationalisation,surplus teachers from a government school can be adjusted in those schools where there is a shortage of faculty members. For this,teachers are now approaching political leaders so that they can get postings in accordance to their wishes,irrespective of the requirement of the schools in question.

In Doaba region,several leaders admitted that teachers were approaching them to get recommendation letters in their favour for particular transfers. We have issued recommendations letters in favour of some teachers despite the fact that it is a bad practice. Instead going a bit far to schools where they are required badly,the teachers prefer to sit idle in schools,which are near to their residences, said a chief parliamentary secretary of Doaba region.

A DEO from the area revealed that they had received thousands of recommendation letters from ministers,parliamentary secretaries,their PAs and DPI offices. If we entertain all these,thousands of schools will not have no any teachers, he added.
