Last year, sitting in their chairs, rating the perfomers, the members of Delhi-based Hindi alternative-rock band,The Local Train, wished they could chuck it all and jump right into the mosh pit of music. Instead of judging, they wanted to rock, and this year, they will do just that. The rockers will be headlining the charity rock-show-cum contest titled Silence Denied 2.0 today. The gig is being organised by The Daniels,an independent organisation formed by students of Punjab Engineering College (PEC).

The show will have five rock bands handpicked from among 26 entries from the region vying for the prize of Rs 15,000,and as The Local Train’s manager and bassist Ramit Mehra puts it,“lots of accolades”. Other members joining the gig include drummer Sahil Sarin, guitarist Paras Thakur and vocalist Raman Negi, who are looking forward to today’s performance. “It’s a charity show that’s in its second year now,and we were the judges last year. But this year,we will be headlining the show,” says an excited Sarin. The proceeds of the show will go to the Blind School in Sector 26.

“It is all about rocking the city’s independent music circuit,” says Mehra, who is all set to tour the country with his band, and will be opening for a slew of college festivals and other major cultural events this season. The group that makes it a point to release a single every month,is now busy compiling a limited edition album by the end of this year. Their song Chhoo Lo is already one of the more covered tracks online, and after their second single Bandeh, they will be releasing their third track titled Dhoode Jo. “It’s the era of singles and this way,we get to gauge our audiences, keep them in the loop,” say the boys and pack off for their sound check.

The tickets are priced at Rs 100. The gig begins at 4pm on Saturday at Bal Bhawan,Sector 23.
