Three hit-and-run cases in city,25-year-old motorcyclist killed

A 25-year-old young sepoy of the Indian Army died in a road accident near the railway station light point late on Wednesday night.

A 25-year-old young sepoy of the Indian Army died in a road accident near the railway station light point late on Wednesday night.

Identified as Sanjeev Kumar,25,he was posted in Chandimandir and was on his way home when the accident occurred. A truck bearing Punjab’s registration number,being driven by Santosh Kumar,a resident of Hamirpur,hit Sanjeev’s motorcycle near the railway light point. He was injured and was rushed to PGI where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police officers said Sanjeev had come to Chandigarh for some work. While returning home,he met with the accident. The truck driver was booked for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence. He was arrested but was later released on bail.

In another incident,Narinder Kumar,a resident of Raipur Khurd,alleged the truck bearing registration number of Himachal Pradesh sped away after hitting his motorcycle. The accident occurred near the airport light point late on Tuesday night. He was rushed to GMCH, Sector 32.

In another case,Vishnu Dev,a resident of Colony Number 5,alleged a car hit his rickshaw-rehri near the dividing road of sectors 44 and 51 in the wee hours of Wednesday. “The complainant was admitted to GMCH-32. He was not able to identify the car or note the number. Also,there are no CCTV cameras on that road,” said DSP (South) Surjit Singh Malik.
