Thrashed for molestation,man ends life

A 22-year-old tubewell operator Rajinder Singh allegedly ended his life after he was thrashed by two persons for molesting a married woman in Behlolpur village near Mohali,the police said here today.

Singh,who was posted at the overhead water reservoir in the village,was found unconscious in the secluded place near nearby Jhampur village at around 2 pm and was immediately rushed to Chandigarh PGIMER,where the doctors declared him dead on arrival,Investigating Officer Kuldeep Chand told Newsline.

The deceaseds brother Baljinder Singh reported to the police that brothers Rajeev Kumar and Umesh Kumar of Behlolpur village thrashed Rajinder in full public view while accusing him of molesting Umeshs wife. Feeling insulted,Rajinder went away to a secluded place and ended his life, Baljinder alleged.

On the complaint of Baljinder,the police have booked Rajeev and Umesh on the charge of abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC but no arrests were made as yet. We are waiting for the postmortem report to establish the cause of death,following which we will proceed further into the case, the IO revealed,while adding that the body was handed over to his brother.
