Theatre Age,a non-government organisation,that teaches performance arts to children living in slums,has requested the public to donate a piece of land to build a hostel for children who are part of the organisation. The request was made in an attempt to provide a space for children to study at night.
President of the organisation Zulfiqar Khan said,The students enrolled with our group are studying from second grade till professional degree courses in various educational institutions. Students living in slums face find it difficult to concentrate on their studies. Hence,there is a need for a hostel to create suitable conditions for them to study in peace.
The organisation that was started in 1992 has 51 students and is currently operating from a shared premises of Government High School in Sector 24. The group sustains its expenses by collecting scrap from various places. A vehicle donated by State Bank of India is used to collect scrap from the Tricity,said the organisation.
Regular free classes are conducted by voluntary professionals to train the kids in drama,dance and music.
In his appeal,Khan said,We urge individuals and institutions to donate required space via account Theatre Age at State Bank of India,Panjab University Sector 14. The account number is 33390886166 while IFSC Code number is SBIN0000742.
