Cycling enthusiasts prepare for one of the biggest cyclothons in the Capital this weekend
Marcus Santiago,31,works as a financial transcriber for the IT company Ambex. The sedentary job and long working hours could take a toll on his health, but Santiago keeps fit by occasionally riding to work and exploring places on his Trek 3700 during the weekends.
On the same day, meanwhile, professional cyclists will participate in Tour de Delhi 2010,a cycling test event for the Commonwealth Games. Covering 100-km distance in nine stages from Vijay Chowk to Deen Dyal Upadhay Marg, this event will feature 15 teams from all over the world, including Holland,Germany,Singapore,Hong Kong,Taiwan and Iran.
I ride a Trek 35,00 and do at least 120 kilometers every weekend, says Vinay Kumar,a Technical Leader with IBM,who lives in South Delhi. Hoping that the BSA Hercules India cyclothon attracts a reasonable crowd,he has his fingers crossed that the rain does not play spoilsport. We have to make the event as successful as it has been in Mumbai and Bangalore, he adds.
Online registration for the cyclothon is open till August 28. Log on to http://www.bsacyclothon. com.
Participation price is Rs 350.
