At Chitkara,3,000 students take part in tech-fest
The two-day annual tech-fest,Pradyogikii-11,began at the Chitkara Universitys Punjab campus near Rajpura on Saturday. Nearly 3,000 students from across the country,including the IITs,have registered for participation in the event. The festival will feature 30 technical events that will be organised by seven national and international technical societies.
Booth scam: BJP leader asks Bansal to resign
In a statement issued on Saturday,BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan expressed concern over the findings of the magisterial report submitted by former ADC Capt P S Shergill regarding the booth allotment scam,in which he has indicted the land mafia,various officials of the administration and politicians. Demanding the resignation of Union Minister Pawan Bansal,Dhawan said that it is Bansals moral responsibility to subject himself to a CBI inquiry and his familys assets investigated by a government agency.
Online test for promotions of constables held
Haryana became the first state in the country to hold computerised examinations for its police force on Saturday. The Haryana Police held the exams to promote constables to head constable posts. The tests were conducted at the Swami Devi Dayal Institutions of Engineering and Technology at Bhagwali. As many as 162 men and 18 women constables took the exams.
2-day exhibition on home goods begin
A two-day exhibition on various home goods began on Saturday at the Shri Sanatan Dharm Sabha in Sector 8. Organised by Dayalbagh Manufacturers satsangis of the Radhasoami faith the event will be open for the public between 10.30 am and 1 pm during the weekend. Handloom fabrics,hosiery goods and pharmaceuticals manufactured by devotees of the faith will be up for sale.
NGO launches drive against drug abuse
A newly-formed NGO,War Against Drug Abuse,launched an awareness drive against drug abuse in the city on Saturday.
While N K Sharma,Chairman of District Planning Committee in Mohali was the chief guest,Mohali Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar and SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar were the guests of honour at the inaugural ceremony. Around 2,000 students participated in various sports events organised as part of the drive.
Maharajas cast a spell at Tagore Theatre
Kathak performances from the scions of the Maharaja family,Pt Jaikishan Maharaj and Deepak Maharaj sons of the legendary Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj hogged the limelight on the second day of the 41st All-India Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan held at the Tagore theatre on Saturday. Young dancers Tribhuvan Maharaj (son of Jaikishan Maharaj),Sanjeev Kumar,Ipshita Chatterjee,Tulika Pal and Shubhi Johri also performed during the course of the day.
