The location is perfect. Nestled in Sector 23,right opposite Bal Bhawan and next to the Government School, the Chandigarh Cooperative Kitchen Garden Society is a green treat.
Established in 1965 by M S Randhawa and others, the Kitchen Garden Society is one of the oldest green gardens in the city. As you roll down its gates, lines of happily potted plants of all sorts greet you. A rare sight, youll find plenty of bees buzzing, butterflies fluttering and birds endlessly chirping here.
We supply seeds, saplings, ornamental fruits and trees, they add. But the special part of this society is that it carries out special spray parties to its members gardens. Youll find all kinds of pesticides and fungicides here, and that too in small packs, says Gupta, adding that they have about 1,600 members now.
In fact, the membership is open these days, says Sharma.
Apart from the 12 board members,it has a honorary horticulture specialist,Dr Satish Narul, who runs monthly magazine as a green technical support for the members. We are running without any aid from the government, tells Gupta, marvelling at the green vale, complete with its tiny green houses, rows of garden fruits and veggies,a canopy of trees, little puddles of ponds, mounts of pots and a dry spring running along. If youre looking for the right flora and green tough to your space, hop along and the kitchen garden will be right there at your service. Barring the national holidays and the 7th,14th,21st and 28th of the month,we are open nine to five, signs off Gupta.
