The F Blogs

There are no private thoughts, comments or pictures anymore — not even one with you pouting like Scarlett Johansson.

Fashion blogs are now a part of every stylish daily diet

Personal opinion vs. public opinion. The twain meet on fashion blogs, the number of which is on the rise. There are no private thoughts, comments or pictures anymore — not even one with you pouting like Scarlett Johansson. There are just sweet nothings on everything, from figure-hugging body-con dresses to Rani Mukherjee’s flab. “Majority of our readers are women aged 15-35 years. We start a dialogue and present the idea of dressing up stylishly everyday, whatever your size, age or budget. The fact that we don’t look like models ourselves connects us to our readers,” say Jasleen Gupta and Sonu Bohra of Fashion Bombay (www.fashion-bombay.com),who also own J.So,an innovative scarves brand.

The web has something for everyone — from corporate women to 35-year-old fashionistas.

Republic of Chic,a blog by Bangalore-based Ruhi Sheikh, encapsulates art, photography, celebrity and fashion, with a bit of everyday life.

While vintage outfits, thrifted fashion,high-street labels and luxury jostle in the blog space together, bloggers are the pallbearers of brands. “Fashion magazines predict, but we (blogs) come to a consensus. We directly communicate with the readers,” say the Fashion Bombay girls. “A blogger should not look like a PR vehicle,” says Samidha Sharma of Street Style India (http://streetstyleindia.blogpost.com/).

If fashion is sometimes the sole reason of communication,at other times it is just a catalyst. “People visit my blog because they want to know everything about my life. They recognise me for my clothes,” says Lesley Lobeni of lazymanxcat (http://lazymanxcat.blogspot.com).

So who are the blog readers? They come for a unique multitude of style ideas: an endless range of creativity, from the playful pin-up girl collages of Handiedan,to the dark aesthetics of Prashant Verma’s Bhagavad Gita or the captivating haute couture designs of Ricardo Tisci. Whichever way you look at it,blogs have become inevitable for fashion and vice versa.
